Cornerstone GIS Contracted by Greater Parkersburg
CVB to Design and Implement Interactive Web-Based
Map Featuring over 400 miles of Trails

Parkersburg, WV

Cornerstone GIS has been contracted by The Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau to design and implement an interactive map site which will include tourism based Points of Interest and Trails in and around Wood County, WV. The interactive site will feature recreational trails including 20 miles at North Bend State Park, 72 miles of the North Bend Rail Trail, 5 miles at McDonough Wildlife Refuge and over 300 miles in Wayne National Forest. The goal is to provide users with detailed information on the recreational trails in the area and also to provide information regarding the terrain, length, and use(s). The site will also serve as a mechanism to provide as much information about the partnering businesses as possible while simultaneously providing visitors with needed information about the tourism-based operations prior to their trip.

The new CVB Interactive Map Site will also feature attractions, accommodations, cemeteries, dining, golf, parks, shopping, self-guided tours and vistas in the area. The interactive map is scheduled to launch April 2010.

Interactive maps provide users with visual information regarding their destinations in relation to other features and attractions of an area. They also provide users with detailed information about their destination including contact information, images, and a link to the business website as well as detailed driving directions. The site can be used by iPhone users while visiting the area or from a home-based computer while planning their trip.

"Cornerstone GIS is very excited to work with The Greater Parkersburg CVB President & CEO, Mr. Steven Nicely on this project. The Greater Parkersburg CVB is acting in a very progressive manner to ensure that their tourism-based market is presented to the public in a manner that is consistent with today's demanding market. The Greater Parkersburg CVB should be commended for their innovative thinking on this project as it should greatly enhance their already existing marketing efforts and hopefully provide area attractions with additional web-based traffic," says Cornerstone GIS owner, Candice Chastain.

Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau Announces
Interactive Web-Based Marketing Campaign

Bluefield, WV

A new way of electronically finding out what to do and where to go in Mercer County is now available through the Mercer County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) website.  The interactive map site that highlights key attractions and trails around the Mercer County area was launched today.

Visitors or local users can visualize the Mercer County area by going to www.visitmercercounty.com/map . The site includes over 40 miles of interactive trails at Glenwood Park, Bluefield City Park, Princeton City Park, East River Mountain Overlook, Pipestem State Park, Camp Creek State Park & Forest and Pinnacle Rock State Park. The site also includes points of interest such as dining, lodging, activities, cemeteries, gas stations, grocery stores, parks and other key attractions in the area.

“This innovative on-line component to our website will help future visitors make decisions and plan their trips to the area more easily and effectively”, says Beverly Wellman, Director of the CVB. “Each point of interest features a picture, contact information and link to their website, allowing visitors to get a better feel for the region”.

The interactive mapping and information site was developed for the CVB by Cornerstone GIS, LLC. The technology firm offers a full spectrum of geographic information services from simple site location maps to extensive enterprise GIS solutions including project planning, design and implementation.

“Our team thoroughly enjoyed working on this project as it was fun developing the map because Mercer County is extremely diversified in what is has to offer visitors,” says Candice Chastain, Cornerstone’s Owner. “The site, which is easy to navigate, provides GPS trail data that illustrates the county’s hiking, biking, walking, and horseback riding recreational opportunities. The trail systems in Mercer County are some of the most enjoyable and well planned we have encountered. The CVB’s idea to include the trails in the County offers a unique feature that we were pleased to provide.”

This is the only comprehensive interactive mapping site of its kind used by a tourism based company in West Virginia, in turn driving additional traffic to Mercer County tourism-based business websites. An online form allows businesses to submit their updated information as needed. Updates to the site will be on-going as new businesses begin operation and information becomes available.
